Year Round Berry Growing Tips from the Master Berry Gardner…

Hey guys and gals! My name is Jerry Randall, better known as Berry Jerry. Momma started calling me that when I was 'bout knee high to a grasshopper because I loved all kinds of berries and my favorite pastime was piddling in the berry garden.

On this website you're gonna find some excellent tips on how to grow scrumptious berries of all kinds -- from raspberries to huckleberries, strawberries to blackberries, gooseberries to blueberries, I raise them all! Even cranberries. After all, variety truly is the spice of life!

Ever since I was a little fella I chose berry gardening over anything else, even over climbing trees and catchin' frogs. I've been growing berries most of my life, and folks, that's a long time cuz I'm just a little bit younger than dirt (according to my wife).

All my friends and family are amazed at the fact that I've got delicious berries to munch on all year round. You see, most folks think berry growing is a seasonal thing, but once you learn the tricks of the trade, you can grow berries all year round no matter where in the world you live! (...even in a tiny little apartment in the middle of New York City!)

I'm not much of a computer guy but everyone I know keeps telling me I ought to get on the Internet and share all my berry growing secrets so everyone everywhere can grow berries all year long. The only thing I like more than growing berries is talking about growing berries, so I took them up on that suggestion!

Chinese Gooseberries: Not Just For New Zealand Anymore

It may seem odd to call something the size of a tomato a berry, but that's exactly what Chinese Gooseberries are (technically, that's what tomatoes are, too). Better known these days as kiwis or kiwifruit, due to a successful marketing initiative in the 1950s, these giant furry berries are both tasty and nutritious.

More to the point, you can grow your own right here in America. They may seem exotic, but there's no reason they have to be grown halfway across the world.

Navaho Blackberries Solve Some Thorny Problems

One of my fondest memories as a child was picking blackberries in the summer -- and man, I wish we'd had some Navaho blackberries back then. As sure as a catfish loves a Catalpa worm, I'd end up with a network of fine scratches on my arms from the thorns, even if I wore a long-sleeved shirt.

Back then, blackberry picking and thorns went together like Paris Hilton and yappy little dogs. But we humans are crafty, our plant geneticists more so than most -- and today, those thorns don't have to be a problem.
